Who We Are

We are the Honor Camping Society of the Boy Scouts of America. Our purpose is four fold:

1. To recognize those Scouts who best exemplify the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives.

2. To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit.

3. To promote Scout camping

4. To crystalize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.

We provide service to our local camp, Camp Tiak, by helping out with camp improvement projects, conservation projects, Summer Camp Staff, providing help with Cub Scout Family Camping Weekends, and service to our local communities.

We are unique in the fact that we are a youth led organization. The young men are in charge of planning and running events with minimal adult help. Our adults are some of the best Scouters we have, and provide excellent leadership, mentorship, and guidance to our youth members.

Our History

Our lodge was chartered in 1948, and our first ordeal was held December 4, 1948 with some 64 Scouts and Scouters in attendance at then council camp, Camp Towanda. During that weekend, the Ordeal Candidates were installed by an induction team from Sebooney Okasucca Lodge from the Andrew Jackson Council. Throughout the years we have had many Chapters within the lodge, but currently there are 6: Ayupka (Chickasawhay District), Hommo Hishi (Tall Pine District), Ittibapishili (Spanish Trail District), Machkeu Wiechcheu (Poplarville area of Tung Belt District), Wuelensin Achtu (Tung Belt District  mins Poplarville), and Woapalanne (Singing River District). These chapters form Ti'ak Lodge which provides service to Camp Tiak, the districts that they belong to, their units, and many council wide events.

Our lodge totem is the Pine Burr or pine cone. It represents long leaf pine trees of the southern Mississippi Pine Belt where we reside. Our Lodge name also is a source of area pride as our name Ti'ak (pronounced tee-ock) means "Tall Pine" in the Choctaw language.
